WEST PALM BEACH — The Palm Beach Post‘s building in West Palm Beach is on lockdown about 11:45 a.m. today as scores of cops and fire fighters have rushed to the property at the corner of Belvedere Road and South Dixie Highway.
Employees, already on edge because of yet another round of layoffs, are saying on social media they have no idea what’s going on but have been told to stay put.
Doors in the building have been locked and police have been checking the building room-by-room.
The elevators are shutdown.
And there’s talk of a white powder discovered on the ground floor.
“We’re getting so little information that some people are starting to feel real uncomfortable,” said one employee. “Some folks are hiding.”
West Palm Beach PD Capt. Dave Bernhardt said a call came in to 911 about a “suspicious package” and that a Hazmat incident team has been dispatched to the newspaper’s headquarters.
UPDATE 1 — Fire fighters now say the white powder may be crushed acetaminophen, Tylenol!
UPDATE 2 — A law enforcement source tells Gossip Extra that West Palm Beach police are investigating the incident. The Tylenol was crushed into a powder, enclosed in a baggie — and clearly designed to scare the occupants of the Post‘s building.
