Wellington polo superstar Nacho Figueras, who’s also one of Ralph Lauren’s best known models, broke a hip when the front leg of his horse crushed him in a fall over the weekend in England (above).
As organizers of Saturday’s match between Figueras’ South America and England feared the worst, Figueras, 36, was rushed to a hospital near the Cowdray Park Polo Club in West Sussex, about 50 miles outside of London.
He tweeted hours later that he suffered a broken acetabulum, the surface of the pelvis where the hip joint sits.
The injury rules Palm Beach County resident out of this week’s big-deal Gaucho Polo Tournament at the giant O2 Arena in London.
Nacho was due to captain his native Argentina team for the third season.
Figueras is expected to be out at least two months, maybe more, but his playing in the next winter season in Wellington should not be affected.
Considering that polo players dread the most injuries caused by falling horses, polo specialists say Figueras was lucky!
