An arrest warrant is being sought today by the North Palm Beach Police Department for former women’s tennis champ Jennifer Capriati, Gossip Extra has learned.
Tennis Hall of Famer Capriati, 36, could be charged with battery and stalking in connection with a Valentine’s Day incident at one of the village’s gym.
According to the police report exclusively obtained by Gossip Extra, the former winner of two Australian Opens and one French Open caught up with an old boyfriend at the Oxygen Health and Fitness gym on US 1 — and things didn’t turn out too well.
She and ex-beau Ivan Brannan, a former Florida State University golfer, had an argument near the men’s locker room and Capriati allegedly hit Brannan’s chest with her fist several times.
A yoga instructor, who told cops that Capriati definitely struck Brannan, intervened — and Brannan, 28, ran into the locker room for cover and called 911.
Capriati left in her Porsche SUV but cops stopped her a few miles away. They only verified her identity and let her go while the warrant is being considered by the Palm Beach County State Attorney. Mike Edmondson, a spokesman wit the SAO, declined comment on whether a warrant would be issued.
Capriati, meanwhile, got lawyered up. Steve Sessa, the attorney, has no comment.
As Gossip Extra reported exclusively, the former No. 1 player in the world sold her Singer Island penthouse at a $600,000-loss last year and moved back to Tampa.
About the same time, Brannan asked a Palm Beach County Circuit Court judge for a restraining order against Capriati.
The judge declined the request despite the fact that police in Riviera Beach and Palm Beach Gardens investigated two incidents between the two.
In one, Capriati was accused of calling Brannan at his workplace more than 100 times in one day.
A pro at 16, Capriati’s early career made news as much for her tennis as for her arrests. She was nabbed in 1994 near Tampa in two separate incidents involving shoplifting and possession of weed.
