Tiger Woods is set to play The Honda Classic again this year.
And No. 2 Woods’ made-for-TV rivalry with No. 1 golfer Rory McIlory, both Palm Beach County residents and co-stars of a new Nike commercial, is about to heat up!
Officials with The Honda Classic, scheduled to take place at PGA National Resort & Spa Feb. 25 to March 3 in Palm Beach Gardens, are prepping up for an 11 a.m. press conference. I’m told they’ll announce that Woods will be playing against defending tournament champ McIlroy, according to tournament sources.
Woods came in second by two strokes at last year’s Honda Classic.
In addition to vying for the world’s No. 1 spot, McIlroy and Woods now have a regional rivalry as well. They live a few miles apart in north Palm Beach County.
As Gossip Extra revealed exclusively weeks ago, McIlroy plunked down $9.5 million for an Intracoastal mansion in the Old Gate neighborhood of Palm Beach Gardens. Woods lives on a $46 million-compound in Jupiter Island.
