The game between the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams at Sun Life Stadium yesterday was almost incidental, even if the Fins won.
For many fans, the induction of greats Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas into the team’s Ring of Honor was reason enough to make the trip to the intermittently rainy stadium.
The duo — they’re family, since Taylor’s married to Thomas’ sister Katina – provided the spine of a feared defense for 11 years before being traded to the Washington Redskins (Taylor) and the Dallas Cowboys (Thomas).
“Thank you for being the greatest fans in the NFL,’’ Thomas told the crowd from the field during the ceremony unveiling Thomas’ name on the stadium wall.
He obviously tried to hold back tears as his voice rang out throughout the stadium.
“You always had our backs. It touched my heart every time I looked in the stands and saw my jersey (on fans). Now to look up and see my name, it’s surreal.’’
