WPBF’s Tiffany Kenney Gets New On-Air Partner

No more early mornings for new WPBF anchorman Todd McDermott, here with his co-anchor at WPXI in Pittsburgh. McDermott starts at WPBF Oct. 22 (Special to Gossip Extra)
WPBF-Channel 25 has found a replacement for prime-time news anchor Victor Blackwell, who recently left town for a gig at CNN.
The West Palm Beach/Treasure Coast ABC affiliate has hired Pittsburgh’s WPXI anchorman Todd McDermott to work alongside veterans Tiffany Kenney and weatherman Mike Lyons at 5, 6 and 11 p.m. weekdays.
While coming to a smaller market, WPBF will allow McDermott out of his morning and noon anchoring in the Steel City.

McDermott originally toiled at WCBS in New York City and WUSA in Washington D.C., as well as WMAR in Baltimore.
He’ll be first trotted out here during WPBF’s coverage of the Oct. 22 presidential debate at Lynn University in Boca Raton.
“I feel an instant connection with Tiffany, Mike and the other talented journalists here,” McDermott said. ”I’ve spent a great deal of time in West Palm Beach over the years and it already feels like home to me.”
McDermott will also have to be a little less gullible if he is to make it big here. In March, McDermott reported as fact an Internet spoof that Pittsburgh Steelers hero Hines Ward got traded to arch-rivals Baltimore Ravens.
It seems McDermott wasn’t tipped off to the joke by the made up quote by Steelers owner Art Rooney: “Pittsburgh Steelers football may not be the same without him, but his smile was pretty creepy anyway.”

Hearst. Once a great company. Now, just a bunch of boneheads who hire boneheads. Can you imagine making this idiot the face of your news department? The next thing we know, he’ll be reporting that Joe Girardi pinch hit for A-Rod in a playoff game!

Best comment of the week Bob! But come on, give the guy a chance! He’s not even been on the air yet. Man, this market’s a tough crowd. It’s New York, only more biting!

Jose Lambiet; I check your blog out from time to time; and my television story is about a (4) newsrooms in West Palm Beach/ Treasure Coast market. One thing for sure I think my story doesn’t exactly matches up the realities of the market, but comes somewhat close. Plus I have a TV 5 in my story that affiliated with NBC just like WPTV. The only difference is it battles hard with the ABC affiliate for the #1 spot. It also deals with “todays’ business model of television news, budgets, ownerships, management and owners. The real difference in ownership is the two leading stations in town are family owned vs being owned by a media conglomerate. I’m shopping it around for a television developlement to turn into a drama cable series.
Todd McDermott has worked at WUSA, WCBS, WPXI and is top notch newscaster. I agree give him sometime to gel with the folks at WPBF.
