Hunt For Manatee Rodeo Suspect Ends

The hunt for the manatee-riding woman near Tampa is over! (Click on the photo for more strange Florida animal tales)
Authorities in the Tampa area were looking for this woman since Saturday afternoon, when bystanders photographed her riding a manatee in shallow waters near Fort De Soto Park.
Obviously, the giant sea cows are strictly protected in Florida because they face extinction.
Not only is riding them illegal — Duh! – it’s also dangerous because of their strong tails.

The manatee-rodeo clown finally surrendered to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office last night, saying she’s new to the area and didn’t know that manatees are protected.
The woman, identified as 52-year-old Ana Gloria Garcia Gutierrez, could be charged criminally. The animal, by the way, isn’t believed to have been injured.

Kind of a non-thing… she didn’t hurt them (and apparently the only danger was of them hurting her) so let her off with a warning, sheesh.
