Wow, that was fast!

Less than six weeks after she quit a high-profile anchor’s job at WPTV-Channel 5 for a high-profile head of marketing and public relations at Wellington Regional Medical Center, Lauren LaPonzina already is looking for yet a new gig.

While some sources tell me LaPonzina, 33, got canned from the hospital last week, the official line is that she left “to seek other opportunities.”

“Lauren is no longer with the organization,” said Beth Mourelatos, Wellington Regional’s director of business development. She’s doing LaPonzina’s job temporarily. “Lauren’s last day was Friday.”

Update: “I walked out,” says Lauren LaPonzina

One spy at the hospital told Gossip Extra that the marketing component of LaPonzina’s job wasn’t what she expected — even if it took her into the institution’s management inner circle.

LaPonzina apparently tried to “put her foot down” but the move backfired.

When she left her morning and afternoon anchoring position at the NBC affiliate in August, after 11 years in the boob-tube biz, LaPonzina appeared ecstatic.

She proudly announced her plan to go “corporate” and lauded the “fantastic” team she was joining at the medical center.

She managed to go through her on-air goodbyes (video below) without crying, telling co-anchor John Favole and viewers that WPTV made “every imaginable effort” to keep her.

But then, she sounded whiny about Channel 5′s daily scheduling, lack of time with her husband and holiday shifts.

The real reason she left 5 was she wanted Shannon Cake’s job and realized that wasn’t going to happen any time soon
