Former Miami Dolphins receiver Chad Johnson just entered a plea of not guilty to assaulting his wife!

As Gossip Extra reported that he would, the 34-year-old unemployed NFL star did not appear personally before Judge Ian Richards and made his plea in writing at this morning’s arraignment.

The charge is a misdemeanor and carries a maximum one year in jail — although it’s unlikely that the former Ochocinco will serve any time.

Johnson allegedly head-butted and bloodied Evelyn Lozada, a VH-1 reality star, during a spat over her discovery of a condom receipt during the Fins’ spring training camp.

Johnson was cut by coach Joe Philbin, an episode caught on HBO’s Hard Knocks, and Lozada filed for divorce
