Chad Johnson Catches a Break!

Broward County prosecutors have decided to take it easy on former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson.

He likely will escape jail for allegedly injuring his wife!

Johnson was formally charged criminally today in connection with the August 11 head-butting of his new wife, reality TV star Evelyn Lozada.

The Broward State Attorney’s Office filed one misdemeanor count of domestic battery against the 34-year-old.

Because Johnson was convicted of slapping a galpal in Los Angeles in 2000, prosecutors here could have charged him with a felony. If convicted, Johnson could’ve been sent to jail for more than a year.

Instead, if convicted of the misdemeanor, Johnson is unlikely to see the wrong side of the bars.

The baller is scheduled to be arraigned in Fort Lauderdale tomorrow morning,

According to State Attorney spokesman Ron Ishoy, Johnson is filing a written plea of not guilty and is not expected to show up in court.

“The charge we filed today, misdemeanor domestic battery, is the correct and appropriate charge based on our analysis of official national criminal records as well as the current evidence in this case,” Ishoy said.

Johnson was arrested at home in Davie after a bloodied Lozada ran to a neighboring home for help. Lozada, a cast member of the VH-1′s Basketball Wives, told police he head-butted her during an argument over a receipt for condoms.

Today’s decision has been a rare positive thing for Johnson. Since the arrest, he was cut by the Fins, Lozada filed for divorce and he lost sponsorship deals.
