Curt Fonger to Replace Channel 25′s Victor Blackwell?

Could it be back to the future for WPBF-Channel 25?
TV insiders tell me former WPEC-Channel 12 anchorman Curt Fonger, whose contract wasn’t renewed at the CBS affiliate last year, has been talking to rival WPBF about a gig.

Enough golf for Curt Fonger? The former Channel 12er is being eyed for prime-time anchoring at rival Channel 25 (via Facebook)
Fonger, who logged in at least 7,000 hours of prime time news in the West Palm Beach/Treasure Coast television market since 1986, would take over co-anchoring chores alongside Tiffany Kenney, another long-time local TV personality.

Kenney lost co-anchor Victor Blackwell last month when he was hired by CNN in Atlanta.
I’m told Kenney wasn’t crying when Blackwell left. They looked positively unhappy together on the air.
Gossip Extra spies, meanwhile, watched Fonger have a long lunch with WPBF General Manager Caroline Taplett last week at TooJay‘s in Palm Beach Gardens.
A station insider reported Fonger recently visited 25′s headquarters but has yet to go through an off-air mock reading with Kenney.
Neither Fonger nor Taplett returned calls.
While ratings at Channel 25 have been more solid as of late, stats show that a significant portion of the audience from top-rated ABC shows like Dancing With the Star switch to WPTV right before the 11 p.m. news.
Another former Channel 12 anchor, Ric Blackwell, is also on the short list for the gig.

A former anchor in Miami was also seen with both the GM and news director from 25. Joel Conable. He was voted “best news anchor in South Florida.” I heard Fogner won’t anchor for less that 600 thousand and, even tough he’s been there for a long time, he is boring on air. I would go with someone younger. News stations always hire old bags and never the cool and hip people.

Joel Connable is his name and he would be a great choice. He was the main anchor at WTVJ and was one of the best I have watched. He’s worked in big markets. I think he came here from Los Angeles. I als read that he was a New York firefighter/paramedic and he is a pilot as well. Talented guy and much more interesting then this Curt guy. Retire already and play more golf!

Don’t put that guy Curt back on TV. He’s a spaz. He is boring and old. I was at WPBF in the newsroom when they auditioned Joel. He did great. He looked great next to Tiffany and everyone in the newsroom was saying, “There’s our anchor.” Tiffany and him had chemistry and he was a nice guy. I think he’s doing travel reporting and why he would leave that for this pile of crap beats me, but if 25 wants to win in the ratings, we need someone young and hip and cute like this Joel guy. I vote for him.
