Barclays International Realty is scheduled to disappear officially Monday when Wyner’s widow and Barclays co-founder Shirley Wyner reports for work at the real estate broker Fite Shavell & Associates.
Co-owner Wade Shavell says his company is expecting to hire all 15 staffers from Barclays. While Shirley Wyner will be based at Fite Shavell headquarters at 101 North County Rd., most of Barclays old staff will remain at Shirley Wyner’s old storefront offices on Peruvian.
“I’ve always been in awe of Shirley,” Shavell said. “She called us and asked if she could work with us, and she’s such a great broker that we had to say yes.”
While Shirley Wyner was Barclays’ main sales figure, her husband Robert was its business mind.
It became apparent soon after Robert’s suicide by gunshot in a West Palm Beach parking garage that the company could not survive.
Robert Wyner was found dead April 5 after Barclays was forced to delay a closing because $250,000 in escrowed money from the buyer couldn’t be located. The disappearance of the cash prompted a short investigation by state officials that showed nothing more than sloppy bookkeeping.
