At odds over chicken? South Florida U.S. congressmen Allen West (left) and Alcee Hastings

Two South Florida-based U.S. Congressmen are in a war of words over Chick-fil-A.

Not, it’s not about the anti-gay marriage views of the chicken joints’ boss.

It’s much worse.

It’s about Rep. Allen West‘s purchase of Chick-fil-A lunches for the Congressional Black Caucus six months ago!

Democrat Alcee Hastings, a disgraced former U.S. District Court judge who represents a district that stretches from north Miami-Dade County through West Palm Beach, objected to West’s taste in Chick-fil-A in the liberal website huffingtonpost.com.

“We have a rotation in the Congressional Black Caucus where every member provides the lunch . . .  when we meet,” Hastings said Monday. “We have fried chicken. And we have catfish and BBQ. We do not have watermelon, although sometimes people will have fruit. We serve a full course meal with collard greens. We have Jamaican beans and rice. West sent Chick-fil-A with biscuits. Ok?”

What’s wrong with that?

Hastings seems to think West, the caucus’ only Republican member, wanted to show his support for the ultra-Conservative management of the chicken-pushing company. “That was an ‘in your face’,” Hastings said.

West picked the Palm Beach County-based GOP-colored website bizpacreview.com for his answer. In it West, who’s now running in a district that goes from Palm Beach Gardens to Fort Pierce, talks about filet mignon and caviar:

Go Allen!! We love you (and Chik-fil-A)! Can’t believe Hastings is complaining about a free meal!
