South Florida Baby With Down Syndrome Stars in Swim Suit Campaign!

A 10-month-old girl from Miami has been named the new face of designer Dolores Cortes‘ new DC Kids swim suit line.
Valentina Guerrero is believed to be the first person with Down Syndrome to be the main model of a clothing line campaign.
The little girl is the daughter of Magic City residents Cecilia Elizalde and Juan Fernando.
“I am very happy that DC Kids USA chose Valentina as their main model because this carries a clear message of inclusion and starts changing the old perception of Down syndrome, thus generating a much needed transformation in society,” the proud mother told New York’s Daily News. ”As a mother, I am incredibly proud of what my daughter has achieved in less than a year of life!”

While Cortes may be up for Woman of the Year for this, one has to question the designer’s motives. By going out of her way to say that Valentina has down syndrome she has helped challenge our perceptions towards children like Valentina but at the same time one can’t help but wonder how this will help her sales. Inspiring or Extorting ?
