EDITORIAL: Tea Party Sounds Off on Story About Allen West’s New Address

Some of the emails I’ve received lately make the Tea Party look like the world’s largest collection of uneducated trash.

Write about a Tea Bagger’s minion – in my case U.S. Congressman Allen West and his move to Palm Beach Gardens on time for the election – and this is the vitriol you get.

From someone named Jamie Williams:

To whomever you are… I find it disgusting that you would publish Lt Col. West’s address and pictures of his home on you little gay scandal thing… I can only imagine what a bitter sad little skumbag you are to do this and put people in harms way, there are a lot of freaks in this world, some of the write gossip columns, some are president or work for him and some are moronic inbisils who read shit like the crap you dribble out…

You say you are a “journalist” I don’t care where you got you degree YOU ARE NOT A JOURNALIST, they have ethics and you clearly do not.. Furthermore, I am glad I don’t live in FL because if people there rely on people like you to report the news to them and the listen to the crap you put in your gossip column, it’s no wonder the get a reputation for being backwoods……I don’t really think Floridians are stupid though, but you look like you probably don’t cater the the actual Floridians anyway, you look like the cuban/latino queer type to me! Is that your target audience? It is obvious that you won’t “develop” a conscience anytime soon, so just let me say to you, I HOPE GOD REMEMBERS YOUR ADDRESS AND WHAT YOUR HOUSE LOOKS LIKE NEXT TIME A HURRICANE WHIPS THROUGH FL!!!!

Then this one came from someone named Carol Wall:

What a low life coward you must be to publish the home address of ANYONE, let alone a family whose dad you hate. Wonder what it must be like to be a Grade C wantabe journalist who pulls dirty tricks like this trying to get noticed. Hope you do, you’ll fit right in with the national scum called the “media”. You should apply to NBC, you deserve each other.

You get the idea — and these are are the notes that were actually readable.

My crime was to publish Allen West‘s new address after his carpetbagging to the Treasure Coast for an easier campaign.

His rented PGA National house, by the way, is behind not just one but two guarded gates — and in this case, a congressman’s address is relevant. We do know, after all, President Barack Obama‘s address!

Never, ever do I receive more threatening or insulting letters or emails than when I write about West — and I know a thing or two about insulting.

It’s pretty clear that Allen West voters are not people with whom you’d sit down for a reasonable chat.

And since elected politicians are a reflection of their voters, we should wonder if Allen West has a place in Congress.

I knew from the first time I heard Alan West speak that he did not belong in Congress – yesterday, today or tomorrow. He is not a public servant – it is all about the perceptions of Alan West which are out of touch with most Americans. He is an egomaniachial SOB. Vote him out!

I am your basic right wing, NRA, conservative, but w/that said the Tea Party meetings I went to were pretty odd. Lots of stormfront.org type rhetoric yet they are pushing a blk candidate. Go figure.

Please let’s bring some sanity to this Congressional District and vote in a man who truly cares about the community he has lived in and served for many years – former sheriff Robert Crowder. Allen West is not someone I would even feel comfortable living next door to and not because he is African-American, but because he is a radical lose cannon willing to say anything to fire up his radical base. We need people in Congress and the Senate who are willing to listen to each other, and negotiate what is best for the American people. It should not be a setting where it’s all about “my way or the highway.”

Allen West epitomizes the disconnect in politics in our country. The teabaggers are angry, ignorant, loudmouths. They have not a clue about country, our history, or facts. They represent the low IQ voter. They believe they are patriots, when in fact they are more terrorist than patriot. If you want your representative to be a loudmouthed, insulting, know-nothing, then I guess West fits that bill. I prefer someone with some intelligence, who knows how to work with people who have different opinions and points of view. Someone who shows respect to everyone, not just the ones who fit in their small-minded narrative. In my opinion, West has got some deep seated anger issues, to put it midly.
