What is it With South Florida’s Weathermen? Before Rob Lopicola, There Was Bill Kamal

Former WPTV-Channel 5 meteorologist Rob Lopicola‘s arrest on charges of sex with minors isn’t the first time that South Florida is rocked by the arrest of a star weatherman.

Before alleged pedophile Rob Lopicola, there was convicted pedophile Bill Kamal – and the similarities between the two are uncanny.

Like Lopicola, Kamal was an openly gay on-air personality well liked by the public. He appealed to male and female viewers. He wore finely tailored suits over his muscular frame.

And if Lopical’s text-messages to a 15-year-old are genuine, then both men wanted to be called “daddy” by young boys they used for sex.

When hurricanes struck, meanwhile, Kamal was the star of Miami’s WSVN-Channel 7. He was on top of his game after 10 years at one of South Florida’s top rated station in 2004 when federal agents swooped down on him on an empty Fort Pierce street.

The 55-year-old had driven nearly three hours to a rendez-vous set up on his Internet connection at Channel 7. He thought he was about to meet a 14-year-old boy.

Thing is, this boy was a fully grown St. Lucie County Sheriff’s deputy working a multi-agency dragnet dubbed Operation Predator.

In time, Kamal pleaded guilty to soliciting sex from a child and served five years in prison. He is on probation for the rest of his life after being released in September 2009.

Gossip Extra tracked down Kamal in Boston, where he toils in the hospitality business. He has yet to return calls for comment.

Nice job finding Kamal. I would love to see an interview with him.
What does “toiling in the hospitality industry” mean? I hope he is not a youth counselor

Toiling in the hospitality industry is a fancy way of saying he’s a dishwasher. I remember when this story broke. After he was booked, his lawyer commented that he was getting on with his life and putting the past behind him. He was never heard from again. I pray his victims inner peace. Their tormentor, and those like him, will forever be imprisoned.
