Clear Channel Guillotine Expected to Fall on Radioland

Right on time for Halloween, the buzz in radioland is that another corporate-mandated job massacre is expected at Clear Channel, the area’s largest radio broadcaster.

Although officials are playing it close to the vest, the West Palm Beach-Treasure Coast market is supposed to feel the pain of a national round of cuts with dozens of personalities expected to step to the guillotine.

Dave Denver, Clear Channel’s local boss, isn’t returning calls. But one tense insider told Gossip Extra mass layoffs could come as early as today.

Clear Channel has axed thousands of positions over the past three years, often replacing local talent with syndicated personalities like Ryan Seacrest, the American Idol host signed to a three-year, $60 million-radio deal.

Locally, Clear Channel owns Wave-92.7 FM, The Gator-98.7 FM, Wild-95.5 FM, Kool-95.5, Real Radio-101.7 FM, Rush-94.7 FM, Oldies 103.7 FM, Mia-92.1 FM, WBZT-1230 AM and WJNO-1290 AM — many of which still depend on local talent.
