West Palm Beach Police Chief Delsa Bush Quits — as News Cameras Roll!

Posted by , October 7, 2011 Print

West Palm Beach Police Chief Delsa Bush‘s swan song was a hell of a lot more spectacular than her tenure as chief.

Chief Delsa Bush: I quit!

While she mostly shunned the press during her 28 years as a city cop, Bush called Citty Administrator Ed Mitchell from her house today and told him she’d be gone by Friday morning — as a WPBF-Channel 25 crew watched the drama unfold.

Reporter Ted White, the former WPTV-Channel 5 reporter who worked as Bush’s public information officer in 2006-07, scored the scoop. When asked why she’s leaving early, Bush told White she resented being called a liar but didn’t elaborate.

A WPB PD source tells me Bush, appointed in 2004 by previous mayor and current congressional hopeful Lois Frankel then criticized for her lack of leadership, was so ticked off about her situation that she didn’t even report for work Thursday. She had a police officer drive to her house at The Tides at Briar Bay and handed him some of her equipment, paperwork and badge.

While West Palm Beach Mayor Jerri Muoio said during her campaign last year that she’d get rid of Bush, she reversed herself close to the election. The relationship between Muoio and Bush grew tenser over the past few weeks, and Bush announced earlier this week she’d resign on Jan. 1.
